Sophia's First Easter

Sophia on Easter Morning

Easter was a bit of a crazy day for us! We were on the go, go, go! Our day started when we got up nice and early for Easter service. Getting anywhere on time these days takes a lot of planning, and extra time. We always allow for the "If she spits up and needs a bath and new clothes" time, or the "Double check the diaper bag" time, or "Wait..are you sure we have everything?" time. . Which, most mornings, is not needed...

So this particular Sunday was a bit different than our regular Sunday mornings. Normally, we mosey out of bed whenever Sophia's hunger dictates...This Sunday was different though! It was Easter Sunday! We had not been to a Sunday morning service in quite some time, as we have been attending Saturday night services. Sophia has been stuffy with a cold and rather fussy in the evenings, and not following her regular sleeping pattern, so we were not quite sure how this early morning was going to go! I felt almost as excited as I did when I was a kid on Easter morning. We always got our Easter Baskets filled with surprises from the Easter Bunny...swim suits for the up-coming summer, our favorite magazines, coloring books, and of course candy...Of course Sophia is too young to know it, but she got a basket from the Easter Bunny this year too! Her basket was filled with two Richard Scarry books (Carly and I loved these as kids), a cute new dress (It was raining and too cold for her to wear on Easter day..boo.), eggs with money for her piggy bank, a cute pair of sandals for the summer, and a bunch of cute hair clips that I had made!(She's modeling one of them in the picture above!) I know it seems silly, but she only has her first Easter once, so I wanted it to be memorable for us!

Sophia's Easter Basket!

Church went really well. Just as she has every time, she slept through most of the service, woke up at the end and didn't make a peep. (As I sit here typing this I am praying that we are not jinxing ourselves for a loud baby at church in the coming weeks!)

After a nice service, and catching up with friends, we ran to Grandma Mary and Grandpa Don's. They had a special treat for Sophia...a cute new bib, and an adorable swim suit for this summer! From there we rushed home, ate some breakfast (Thanks Mom, the biscuits and gravy were delish!!), and got everything ready for the day over in Colusa. Every year our family has gone to Colusa for a big Easter gathering. All the cousins and their kids are there, and between weddings and babies, the family just seems to get bigger and bigger every year!

We spent the afternoon in Colusa and Sophia met many cousins and second cousins, and cousins' cousins...lots of people! She did SO good. She was as content as ever as she was passed around and shared. She was spoiled with cute new outfits and stuffed toys. She only cried once after a long nap...it was eating time! We chose not to hunt for eggs this year in the rain, but we're excited about next year when Sophia will be stumbling around for her first egg hunt!

From there we headed back to Yuba City to spend the evening with Grandma Sue, Grandpa Whit, and Aunt Alisha. All 3 had been out of the state for a week and were needing some Sophia time. Again, Sophia was spoiled with all sorts of goodies! Grandma Sue and Grandpa Whit got her two cute outfits in Spring colors and gave her some money for her college savings plan. Auntie Lish found an adorable Giants outfit and couldn't pass it up! (I love it!...Matt would prefer it said Atlanta Braves; But we all know she'll be a Giants fan like her momma!)

After the busy day Sophia slept great despite her cold and her drippy nose. And she was able to fit into her bunny PJ's just for the Easter occasion; though I have a feeling it may have been the last time, as she's starting to outgrow these clothes now! It feels like she's growing like a weed...must be the Spring rain we're getting! Next size, here we come!

  1. We are soooo enjoying the stages of Sophia...she now coos and smiles like crazy and even tries to carry on a conversation....squealing & giggling! Brings back memories of Katie and Carly "firsts" -
Experiencing and watching Katie and Matt as parents is awesome. Katie is a great Mom - Matt is such a good daddy - he gets right in there helping Katie with whatever he can, realizing her plate is full with work and Sophia - this is a wonderful stage of life - and we know its only gonna get better - Love you guys! (Proud) Grandma Mary & Grandpa Don XXXOOO
